Directions
- Prepare
item by making sure it is free from dirt and grime. Jo Sonja's
All Purpose Sealer mixed with basecoat 1:1 is recommended to seal
the surface.
- Apply a
basecoat of Jo Sonja's Artists Colors to the surface and allow
to dry. This is the color that will show through the crackle pattern.
- Apply an
even, medium to thick coat of Decor Crackle. Allow to dry thoroughly.
- Apply a
contrasting coat of Jo Sonja's Artists Colors. This is the color
that will crackle! A contrasting color over a basecoat will emphasize
the crackle effect. Crackle pattern will vary depending upon direction
of strokes and thickness of paint application. Allow the item
to sit at room temperature. Crackling effect will appear slowly
and the basecoat will show through the cracks. Finer cracks will
result from thinner application of paint; wider cracks from heavy
application of paint.

Jo Sonja's Background
Colors may be used as basecoat, but are too heavy to crackle when
applied as topcoat.
Weathered Wood
Technique For a weathered wood appearance to the crackle (this technique
was shared with us by Ronnie Bringle).
- Basecoat as in step 1 & 2.
- Apply 1 medium to thick coat of Decor Crackle. Allow to dry.
- Apply topcoat of contrasting color mixed with Jo Sonja's Regular
Crackle (1:1) using a large brush. Basecoat will show through
cracks. Crackle will be immediate. Jo Sonja's Metallic Colors
and Jo Sonja's Background Colors may be used in this technique.
